Tony’s Di Napoli: Big Plates, Big Tables, Curtain at Eight
Two blocks of Theater District chaos outside, and inside — a dining room moving like a well-drilled orchestra, landing mountains of pasta on tables of six, eight, twelve. Tony’s Di Napoli is the pre-show engine room of Broadway nights: family-style Italian, poured wine, loud laughter and a staff that treats your curtain time as a personal deadline.
History
The Wetanson family — restaurant people through and through — opened the first Tony’s in 1990, modeling it on the family-style joints they grew up loving in Queens. The Times Square location joined in 2002 and became the flagship: on peak nights the room turns over more than a thousand covers without ever losing its grin. A third generation now runs the show.
What to Order
Platters built for the table: rigatoni alla vodka, spaghetti with meatballs the size of a fist, chicken parmigiana, veal marsala and linguine with clams. Half portions exist for smaller crews — a rare mercy in the family-style world. Round it off with cannoli or the house cheesecake if anyone is still standing.
The Space
A warm, high-energy hall with old-school bones — white tablecloths, wood, photographs and the constant music of clinking plates. It feels like a party someone’s Italian grandmother is quietly supervising: casual enough for jeans, festive enough for a birthday crown.
Who It’s For
Theater parties racing an eight o’clock curtain, visiting families, office dinners and any group whose plan is “a lot of pasta, fast, and make it fun.”
Good to Know
Will I make my show? Tell your server the curtain time — pre-theater pacing is the house specialty, and they will get you out with minutes to spare.
Can two people eat family-style? Yes — half portions are offered on most dishes, so a duo is not condemned to a week of leftovers.
Do I need a reservation? On show nights, absolutely; late evening and lunch stay looser.
Is it good for big groups? Built for them — big round tables and shared platters make it one of Midtown’s easiest group calls.
What about vegetarians? Pastas, salads and vegetable sides carry the meal comfortably — the vodka rigatoni needs no meat to win.

The server is very nice, and although we understood almost nothing, she kept smiling and explained the menu as best she could. The portions are gigantic, even the half portions.
