Early Life
Lana Del Rey, born Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, is a celebrated American singer. She was born on June 21, 1985, in Manhattan, New York, to Robert England Grant Jr., an investor and entrepreneur, and Patricia Ann Hill, a high school teacher. Elizabeth grew up with two younger siblings, Caroline and Charlie.
Music became an integral part of her life during her early years at Catholic elementary school, where she sang in the local church choir. However, her teenage years were marked by a struggle with alcoholism, leading her parents to send her to a boarding school in Connecticut for rehabilitation.
After completing high school, Elizabeth briefly enrolled at the State University of New York at Geneseo but opted to move to Long Island, where she worked as a waitress. Her big breakthrough came in 2011 when she uploaded her tracks Video Games and Blue Jeans on YouTube. These songs gained unexpected popularity, catapulting her into the spotlight. Following this, Lana released a single for Video Games, earning her accolades such as “Future Star” at the Q Awards and “Best Contemporary Song” at the Ivor Novello Awards.
In 2012, Lana signed contracts with Interscope and Polydor and released her second studio album, Born to Die, which topped charts globally. This was followed by her third album, Ultraviolence (2014), and her fourth, Honeymoon (2015).
