She was born on June 21, 1985, in Manhattan, New York, to Robert England Grant Jr., an investor and entrepreneur, and Patricia Ann Hill, a high school teacher. Elizabeth grew up with two younger siblings, Caroline and Charlie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Music became an integral part of her life during her early years at Catholic elementary school, where she sang in the local church choir. However, her teenage years were marked by a struggle with alcoholism, leading her parents to send her to a boarding school in Connecticut for rehabilitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After completing high school, Elizabeth briefly enrolled at the State University of New York at Geneseo but opted to move to Long Island, where she worked as a waitress. During this time, she taught herself to play the guitar and began performing in nightclubs, gradually building a local fan base. She recorded several demo albums, including Young Like Me and Sirens. In 2006, she signed with the label 5 Points Records, and in 2008, she released the EP Kill Kill and her debut studio album Lana Del Ray. The album, however, failed to achieve significant recognition. Dissatisfied with her lack of progress, Elizabeth ended her contract with the label and moved to London with her managers, Ed Millet and Ben Mawson. It was during this time she adopted the iconic stage name Lana Del Rey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her big breakthrough came in 2011 when she uploaded her tracks Video Games and Blue Jeans on YouTube. These songs gained unexpected popularity, catapulting her into the spotlight. Following this, Lana released a single for Video Games, earning her accolades such as \u201cFuture Star\u201d at the Q Awards and \u201cBest Contemporary Song\u201d at the Ivor Novello Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2012, Lana signed contracts with Interscope and Polydor and released her second studio album, Born to Die, which topped charts globally. She later had a relationship with musician Barrie James O\u2019Neill, which also ended.
